I was born in London, England, and immigrated to Florida as a young boy with my family.

I always knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur from a very young age. In fact, when I was 12, I remember asking my father, who was also an entrepreneur, if he would invest in any potential businesses I found.

One of the first business ventures I embarked on was reselling my older brother’s unwanted items. When he grew tired of his Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses, he gave them to me. So, I called the Tallahassee Tribune and placed an ad to sell them.

Not long after, my first customer showed up at my front door. My dad answered and the man said he was there to see me. My dad looked at me funny, but in the end, I made 60 bucks that day!

Even though my parents pushed for education and my older brothers went to college, I always knew it was not my path. I was a bit of a rebel and I still am today. I did end up giving college a try and tried my best to keep an open mind, but after 6 months, I decided to drop out and pursue my goals.

I wasn’t born with great salesmanship skills, so I knew I needed to learn it and do so quickly. So, I threw myself to the wolves and decided to go and sell cars. It was an amazing experience because I quickly learned the concept of sink or swim. After learning a bit about the business, I ended up becoming salesman of the month and even had my photo in the Tallahassee Tribune. That really helped build my confidence.

Later, as I began exploring becoming a business owner, I created a few businesses that I eventually sold. It was a struggle, to say the least.

It wasn’t until I was 35 that I finally “woke up” and realized that I needed to start investing in myself if I was going to become anything in life. That was the moment everything changed.

I took massive action to learn and educate myself as much as I could. I became obsessed with bettering myself and invested every dollar I had in doing just that. At the time, I had little to no money. I didn’t even have a sofa in my home, but what I did have was belief in myself.

Some people may think that’s crazy, but I knew if I made myself more able and had more knowledge, everyone around me would benefit.

In 2012, I started Blackstone Medical Services. My purpose was to help as many people as I could, through better cost, access, and quality. The business started in a 400-square-foot office, with no revenue, one employee, and a loan from an investor.

As an entrepreneur, you just accept the fact that some weeks you may not get paid because you have to take care of your employees first. So, the first several years were constantly a challenge, but I knew that all the hard work and sacrifice would pay off one day.

Fast forward to today where we have 200+ employees. We’ve also become an Inc 5000 company and the nation’s largest provider of home sleep testing services. We are contracted with over 17 million lives via various Insurance Providers and we provide a level of service to out patients, physicians, and insurance providers that is unmatched.
