How To Successfully Manage Time For Productivity
How do you currently manage your time?Depending on your answer, it can be one of two ways; you either do it to the minute or you compromise it.You should be managing your time by making sure that when you’re supposed to do something, you are doing that thing only. Do not let anything get in your way or stop you from finishing that task.I manage my time based on knowing it's time to do something at a certain time and then doing it.I'll block out time in my day and then structure it in forms of time blocks.During the time from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM I'll be working on one thing, then from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM I'm working on another, and so on.And I don't allow anything to get in my way in between, so I'll either make sure that I don't have distractions or I'll close my door. That’s why it’s so important to make it a priority to work on the things that you’re working on.I'm very punctual, and have to be on time with things, so when people aren't on time it drives me nuts.
If we start something at one, we start at one. If a meeting is scheduled to last 15 minutes, it's going to last 15 minutes. And sometimes you can get lost in the continual conversations, the conversations where people drag time on–you know the kind of people I’m talking about.Attorneys are trained to expand time. You’ll be on the phone with them and you’ll notice they say the same thing six times in six different ways. And that’s because it's how they make money, that’s how they bill you, for their time.So when you run meetings, try not to spend time on that, try to stop people from repeating themselves, and get right to it.Figure out what you're talking about then figure out what the next course of action is and move on and expand to start running your life that way.Do it to the point where, “If we're doing this, we're doing this.” and then boom. Let's get to it.And if somebody decides to show up too late, leave.Don’t wait for other people to catch up because at the end of the day you’re conducting a moving train carrying other passengers that are on board and ready to go.
You have things to do, so if you’re meeting at one, you’re meeting at one.If someone shows up 20 minutes late, sorry we’ve started or I'm gone.If you show up at my house, guess what? Knock, knock nobody's home.Otherwise you get sidetracked and now you’re delayed. Now you're less productive because somebody else held you back.So you have to be very picky about your time and that’s one thing people aren’t picky enough about. And if you really want to have an edge over every other entrepreneur in the world you’ll protect your time, and hold it like a treasure because you only have so much of it.So when you manage your time wisely, that’s when you get a lot done.I create time by controlling my time, and I don't allow things to get in the way that would take control of my time.So if there's any distractions or things going on, don't allow yourself to get involved with those distractions.Create your own time, fit in what you need to get done, and get it done. That's what creates time.
But if you're not controlling time, and start saying, “Oh, there's not enough time. Oh, I gotta do that tomorrow.” Then you're not controlling your time.I know that I can fit in what I need to fit in to get it done today. And if I need to prioritize something for later, then I do that. And if I need to take something else not as important then I move it to another day to re-prioritize it.But controlling your time is YOUR time, so make sure that you control your time. And only through controlling your time, you create time itself for increased productivity.
